Abstract

The Circular Economy (CE) is a model of production and consumption looking beyond the current take-make-waste model and aiming at decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources. A model that proposes to redesign the production and consumption of products by reducing the use of virgin non-renewable resources, minimizing waste, and bringing back end-of-life products into the economic cycle is essential to address environmental challenges.

During the last few years, in particular after the first proposal for an EU policy package on a ‘Circular Economy’ in 2015, the concepts and definitions of Circular Economy bloomed in different policy, institutional, industrial and research environments. It is therefore necessary to disentangle the most referred available CE concepts and schemes to set a clearer scene for the CE.

The workshop will be an opportunity to present the Report on Circular Economy, drafted by FEEM and Università Cattolica (Milan). The Report provides an overview of concepts, policy frameworks and measurement tools related to Circular Economy and will be used as a background for the definition of FEEM’s research agenda on the topic.

The workshop aims at extending the debate on Circular Economy to a wider audience. On this occasion, high-level international experts will present their work to provide qualified points of view and perspectives on the subject. Through their participation, this workshop intends to stimulate a debate around policy, research and business initiatives to support the transition to new circularity-based models.
